Where it stands
New since 10-26 (VERIFIED): Marist, Oct 22-25: Jackson 49, Collins 47 among likely voters (RV 53-44); favourability Jackson 39/49, Collins 44/53. Source: Marist PDF https://maristpoll.marist.edu/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Marist-Poll_Maine-NOS-and-Tables_202610261228-3_43sjl2.pdf (2026-10-26). CORRECTED: a NewsCord roundup headline (10-27) says Jackson is "trailing by 2". The primary PDF shows him leading by 2. Echelon (Oct 16-23): Jackson 51-44, raw +7 (in the model at +7.37).
Polls (10-27 snapshot): five aggregates updated 2026-10-27 range from Jackson +1.2 to +3.0 (average 49.1–47.1, +2.0). Latest polls: Oct 22–25 LV, Jackson 49–47 (RV: 53–44); Oct 21–23, 1,077 LV, 47–47; Echelon (R), Oct 16–23, 413 LV, Jackson 51–44; Beacon(D)/Shaw(R), Oct 16–20, 1,514 LV, 49–49; InsiderAdvantage (R), Oct 13–14, 1,200 LV, Jackson 49–47. Since early October the race has been a 0–4 point Jackson edge that is not widening.
Money (FEC through 10/14, via Wikipedia): Jackson raised $26.9M and has $1.60M cash on hand. Collins raised $25.2M and has $2.69M cash on hand. Collins has more cash for the final weeks.
Context: Graham Platner won the June 9 primary, then withdrew on July 10 after sexual-assault accusations. Jackson was nominated at a convention on July 25.
Debates: a third debate (WMTW, 10/14) and a final debate (Maine Public, 10/16 takeaways). AP (10/15) reports Jackson told Collins to "shut up" during the debate.
Early vote: not retrieved.
Risks to the lead
- The temperament frame. Collins and the NRSC launched a TV ad built on Jackson's debate "shut up" line: "that's how Troy deals with women", "Troy Jackson is a bully" (CNN, 10-27, VERIFIED). It targets swing women.
- Collins's cash edge: $2.69M vs $1.60M cash on hand through 10/14 (Wikipedia/FEC, secondary). The FEC API was rate-limited in this pass, so these are not re-checked.
- The lead is inside the error. Marist LV is +2. Jackson's favourability is 39/49, which leaves little room for further damage.
What's working
Outside family attacks are backfiring. Senate Leadership Fund (SLF) radio and TV ads ("creep", the cousin line, the cell tower on his partner's parents' land) drew a call from Collins's own spokesperson to take one down (CNN, 10-27, VERIFIED).
Jackson's partner Pelletier responded in a BDN op-ed (via CNN, 10-27, VERIFIED).
The seven-figure closing buy (MS NOW headline, 10-27, UNVERIFIED).
Top 5 recommendations
Drop the insults and the "puppet" talk in the final week, and close on cost-of-living contrasts. This is the direct answer to the "bully" ad.
Let validators, not Jackson, answer the family attacks: Pelletier and Collins's own disavowal (CNN 10-27).
Make issue contrasts only from verified roll calls. Collins voted Nay on H.R. 1 passage (Senate roll 372, 2025-07-01), so do not run a "she voted for the big bill" line. On Iran war powers she voted Nay on the first 6 Senate votes (2025-06-27 to 2026-04-22) and Yea on the last 9 (2026-04-30 to 2026-09-24). A truthful draft, only if needed:
"Susan Collins voted six times against Senate war-powers measures on Iran before she changed course in April 2026."
voteview S119 rolls 328, 705, 717, 728, 738, 747 (Nay); 772 onward (Yea).
Run a women-voter appeal on abortion and healthcare costs, pending vote verification.
Turn out the RV-to-LV gap. Jackson leads 53-44 among registered voters but only 49-47 among likely voters (Marist). That points to a turnout program for low-propensity supporters.
